Welcome to GFXBoot. This package will allows you to switch between the EGS
and the CyberGrafix system with just one command. The beauty of it is that
you can expand it as much as you want. This simpel version just sets the
selected graphics system and sets a screenmode you selected. It is up to
you to add more features, like maybe a different background image for EGS
and Cybergrafix. It is all possible by just simply adding some lines to
the script.. And It's fairly simple to set up. Just a few easy steps...
1. Create the following directories:
- sys:prefs/presets/EGS
- sys:prefs/presets/EGS/Monitors
- sys:prefs/presets/EGS/Presets
- sys:prefs/presets/EGS/WBStartup
- sys:prefs/presets/CyberGrafix
- sys:prefs/presets/CyberGrafix/Monitors
- sys:prefs/presets/CyberGrafix/Presets
- sys:prefs/presets/CyberGrafix/WBStartup
2. Before installing CyberGrafix, you need to backup some EGS data.
- Copy DEVS:Monitors/Piccolo#? to sys:prefs/presets/EGS/Monitors.
- Copy SYS:WBStartup/EGS-Startup.info to sys:prefs/presets/EGS/WBstartup.
- If you use E.S.P, follow the example set by EGS-Startup.info. Don't
forget to edit the GXBoot script as that's laid out for PicoRetarget.
- If you use PicoRetarget, do as for E.S.P.
3. Now start sys:prefs/Screenmode and save you EGS screenmode (using the menu
option 'Save As') to sys:prefs/presets/EGS/Presets/screenmode.prefs.
4. After this, select a standard Amiga screenmode (eg. DBLPAL, DBLNTSC etc.)
5. Now install the CyberGrafix system using it's install script.
6. If you want GFXBoot also to support an Amiga native mode, then start the
sys:prefs/Screenmode program and like in point 3 save your AGA or ECS mode
to sys:prefs/presets/AGA/Presets/screenmode.prefs.
7. Now it's time to reboot and setup CyberGrafix as explained in it's manual.
8. After you've set your favorite CyberGrafix screenmode, it's time again to
do a save like in point 3 and 6. This time the mode should be saved to:
sys:prefs/presets/CyberGrafix/Presets/screenmode.prefs.
9. Copy DEVS:Monitors/Piccolo#? to sys:prefs/presets/CyberGrafix/Monitors.
10. Get your AmigaDOS 3.x Install floppy and copy the ReBoot program you find
in the C: directory on that floppy to your HD's C: directory.
11. That's all.
Now you can switch between the different graphics systems by simply running
the GFXBoot script with the appropriate parameter. Be it EGS, CG or AGA for
EGS, CyberGrafix and AGA/ECS respectively. So GFXBoot EGS will setup the EGS
system, wait 5 seconds and then reboots the Amiga into EGS. GFXBoot CG will
set up CyberGrafix, wait 5 seconds and reboot into CyberGraphix. It's really
that simple.
ToDo List:
- Make some icons for XIcon or IconX. So this stuff can be started by clicking
on an icon from the Workbench. Anybody willing to do this?
Ok, this thing is a freebie. All I ask is if you make an EGS or CyberGrafix
program, drop me a copy maybe on ftp.iaehv.nl /pub/users/paul/incoming. Or
UuEncoded to paul@serena.iaehv.nl.
DISCLAIMER: I am in no way responsible for any damage to you, your Amiga,
your loved one's or any other object resulting from reading this
document and/or executing the GFXBoot script.
Enjoy in good health. Let's keep the old girl alive!
